PYE Stereophonic 1005 record player: parts source?
I've just inherited a 1968 (I think) PYE Sterephonic 1005 record player from a house clearance and wondered if anybody here knew where spares could be obtained?
It's missing the metal catch that holds the lid down - this part does an important job and the player had been stored without it for about 30 years, which led to some warping of the lid, which I've dealt with. It's also missing the small rectangle of brown plastic that finishes off the top of the autochanger post. Apart from that, it's in good cosmetic condition - even the speaker cloth either end is intact, although sagging a little. I see I can buy a N.O.S. stylus on eBay, but that's the only part I've seen listed there. Thanks Last edited by Manalishi; 13th Sep 2021 at 1:45 pm. Reason: Some missing words |

It is important that the lid is firmly closed as the sealed box it then creates is intrinsic to the acoustic design. It must fit snugly over the soft plastic surround. Short of robbing another unit, you may have to fettle something of a "push fit" lid closure. Your 1005 will have come from 1964, not as late as 1968. The screw in plastic cap can be salvaged from another BSR UA15 autochanger. The speaker cloth can be re-stretched over its ventilated metal frame. Have you tested out the unit yet?
Sorry, it's a push-on plastic capping you need for the UA15 pillar, not a screw on type.

Re: PYE Stereophonic 1005 record player: parts source?
The deck is a BSR UA15 (or UA16?) so you could buy another one to raid for parts. These have not been made for decades now so you won't find them new!
The stylus you need (which are readily available still!) will depend on the cartridge fitted, which may have been changed over the years as they do fail. Post photos if unsure and we can advise. Post a photo of the remaining catch and ask in the wanted section.
