This is the first time I use a forum, if there are mistakes in my usage please let know.
I decided a couple of days ago to check my old BBC computer from about 1985 and bought in Germany. Of course there were some problems. The first one were the Rifa capacitors in the PSU, I replaced them. But the bigger problems where the two boards in the case, which have become loose during some of my transports. I think I put the WD1770 board back in the right way around, but I'm not sure, I'm not an electronics guy. But my bigger problem is the board which I believe contains the 6502 processor, in particular the loose wires with two connectors and one IC clip which most likely connect somewhere on the main board (see attachment). But where? There is also a loose white wire on the board, which I believe connects to the 6502 board, there is suspicious soldering point as a likely candidate, but again I'm not sure. I searched the Net for this BBC micro, particular the 6502 board, but I came up empty. If anybody has some advice, links, info etc. I would very much appreciate it. |

Hello Wolfweb28 - welcome to the forum - as a new member here your first few posts will be held for moderation so they won't appear straight away but after that you will be able to post in real time.
Although we like to try to help everyone here I think it is only fair to tell you that the best forum specifically for the BBC computers is this one:- https://stardot.org.uk/forums/ That is a single-focus forum dedicated to the BBC microcomputers and if there is anyone who knows everything about your add-on boards and how they should be fitted, they will be there. Having said that, there are a few BBC fans / experts here too so let's see what they have to say. |

Yes, Stardot is probably the best place for people likely to know about these. And they do have an archive of ROM's / software / documentation?
I too have some Watford Electronics WD1770 (D)DFS boards, and that one looks familiar. It does look like it is fitted the right way round, as it probably wouldn't fit the other way round without fouling Keyboard connector etc. But you do have to be very careful that all the pins from the board have gone into the 8271 FDC socket on the Beeb's board, as it is easy for these to get bent / broken. There is probably a pin1 marking on the top silkscreen. Unfortunately it looks like this forum has over-compressed the photo, so if you could put it in a zip file and re-attach it, then that avoids this happening. So I couldn't see the what make the 6502 expansion board is. It does rather look-like the Solidisk 128 one I have - That doesn't require any external connections? But this one has different, larger, RAM IC's and does appear to be made by someone else (like C.I.L?). I would have thought some Google of that would have turned up some documentation somewhere on this Sideways RAM/ROM (+ Shadow-RAM for screen memory?) expansion board. |

Thanks Ortek_Service for the quick reply, I'm still trying to get a handle on the forum buttons, that and the time zone hopefully explains my slow reply.
I attached the picture again as .zip file(compressed with 7Z), resolution should be 4608 x 3456. It is very difficult to decipher any printing on the board, on the chip it says: R65C02P4; ?I450-I4; 8551. Other text on the board itself: (c) 1986, SOLIDISK; TECHNO ; Fourmeg - 32K; ?? 6502; Superfast Ram.I don't understand the sentence 'There is probably a pin1 marking on the top silkscreen' |
