Murphy type A4 radio - repair or sell?
Hi all.
I've recently found the above radio in my parents' attic when clearing it out. It was my grandparents'. It doesn't work at the moment but I'm wondering if it's worthwhile getting it repaired before selling it or just selling it as is (not knowing what is wrong with it though!)? Any advice would be much appreciated. It is in good visual/cosmetic condition, if that's worthwhile information. Thanks in advance. Tristan |

The A4 is a lovely set.
To get an early 30s set restored will not be cheap. I very much doubt you would get The cost back. IMHO sell it as with decent pictures. Those truly interested can restore themselves. Cheers Mike T

I'm on the lookout for a A4 as I haven't got one in my large Murphy collection, It's a pity you're so far away.
I agree with Mike to have it restored would be time consuming and not cheap in view to what you'll be able to sell it for. Best if you can strike a deal with an enthusiast who can restore it themselves, it's a lovely set and I hope it goes to a good home.

Re: Murphy type A4 radio - repair or sell?
Hi Tristan
You would get the best price most likely on Ebay however there are some problems. This set is heavy and shipping it anywhere will be expensive and risk serious damage to the set. That pretty much limits it to collection only which will reduce it's appeal. Two forum members have already expressed an interest so perhaps some PM's. You can sell it on the Forum but that requires an exact price since this is not an Auction site. Post some pictures here on the Forum of your set. In the mean time here's the link to the one in RM https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/murphy_a4_a_4.html Cheers Mike T

Re: Murphy type A4 radio - repair or sell?
Tristan, I had a 30s Murphy radio that I realised I was never going to restore, and as others have pointed out they cost far more than their end value to restore, I gave mine to MurphyNut who made an excellent job of it, so it's now preserved. That is the ultimate objective.
