Default Philips AF563 help

Hi im working on a Philips AF 563 changed the belts and gave it a clean and re-lube.
The help i need is with the amp you have to push the volume slider up to about 7 to get any volume out of it the volume control does work as the volume does increase as you go up but its not very loud not sure how loud it should be but i think it should be louder than it is anyone have any ideas?
I have also changed the cartridge and stylus unit.

This player is rated at 10 watts per channel and, from memory, uses a Philips made ceramic cartridge. When you say "changed" the cartridge what does mean - i.e. have you been able to source a direct replacement for the 1979 original?
