Possible, but not recommended. The centre hole is oversize.

Standard 8 and 1/4 inch tape spools are the same, surely - super 8 has a larger (1/2 inch) centre hole.

Hi,
Standard 8 spools will work perfectly with tape recorders. I've used them many a time.
In my youth, I saved the three inch spool that came back from Kodak, Agfa, et al when editing film together. They were handy for message tape sent to distant relatives.
Super 8 Spools have a larger hole, but adapters used to be available.
I have a few vintage aluminium cine spools which I put on my Ferrograph Series Five, to make it look a bit more 'authentic' for display purposes.
Cheers, Pete.

Clue: it's called a "cine hub".
