Sony air 7 airband receiver
Firstly I'm sorry if I've posted this under the incorrect forum thread.
I have a 20 + year old Sony Airband 7 receiver which has been truly excellent. Recently I've been having problems with the volume control which only works at full volume. I've tried cleaning the volume control with compressed air etc with no joy. Can anyone please suggest a fix for this, or can anyone suggest someone who might be able to repair it for me. It's been a great radio and would really like to get it back to working order again. Many Thanks |

Re: Sony air 7 airband receiver
Oddly enough I have one that is the opposite, neither volume nor squelch do anything at all. Whilst it works, volume is very, very low. It came from a fellow forum member and as yet have not tackled it. Internet research suggests failing capacitors are possibly the cause. Keep us informed of your progress.

Re: Sony air 7 airband receiver
Only full volume suggests that the "earthy" end of the volume control pot has a bad connection.
Look for cracked solder joints etc. around it. Post a picture if you're unsure. Nick |

Try injecting a signal at the wiper of the pot to make sure the audio section works correctly.

Re: Sony air 7 airband receiver
Many Thanks for the replies.
I have taken the back off the Sony Air 7, but beyond that I'm not sure what I have to do next , the area where the control knob is looks to have a cover over it. I assume parts are no longer available for it? I've been checking e bay for a non working one, but I suppose the volume control might not be working on a faulty one. Could anyone suggest someone that might look at the receiver for me in the hope it might be repaired? Thanks again |
