Kw2000
Hi Forum
I have just come across a very nice KW2000, NO power lead. From what I have managed to find on the net - is it correct that you need an external power supply? at what voltage?? it looks as though there is a small transformer already in there ? but again not sure - it all looks amazingly clean both inside and out with a small mod I guess - the mike socket has been changed to a 4 pin but otherwise all looks present and correct - I'd appreciate some help with this as I would love to see it up and running, pictures can be provided if need be the serial number is :-452 and a couple of stickers inside would indicate that G3DPG once owned it from Merseyside W J Ryland. If anyone would like to know more or can help please get in touch. Regards Mike |

Re: Kw2000
As far as I know it uses an external power supply or the 2000A does that I am awaiting delivery of this next week.
Please keep me posted as I would love to get mine up and running.Thank You David

Re: Kw2000
Hello Mike
Ah! The venerable KW2000. All of this series use an external supply. Be prepared to do some work on it. The key component likely to be defunct is the Kokusai sideband filter. These are prone to internal collapse. Try https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/KW_Radios/info Sign up and emerge yourself in the huge amount of info available there. Good luck Pete |

Re: Kw2000
They need an external power-supply
http://www.vmarsmanuals.co.uk/archiv...000_manual.pdf It can either be an AC-mains supply built into the associated loudspeaker, or an inverter-box designed to run off 12/24V DC in a mobile setting. From a practical perspective the big issue is that the Kokusai 455KHz filter does not age well - the internals are suspended on thin wires and protected against vibration by cellular foam which over the decades degrades to rubbery-clots-of-snotty-uselessness. They can be rebuilt - see here: http://www.sandrock.org.uk/radiostuf...%20Filters.pdf |

Re: Kw2000
Just added some pictures.
I've been told its one of the very first G series and PSU :-The PSU has 800 volts DC for the EHT, 245 volts for the HT. Bias has adjustable output for the PA ( - 60 to 80 volts) plus around - 65 volts for the biasing. Not forgetting the 12v AC for the heaters, it has two transformers. |

Re: Kw2000
I shall watch this thread with interest.
My Vespa MkII has an external PSU in a cardboard box with punched holes for ventilation! Hasn't been used in nearly 30 years. |

Re: Kw2000
That KW2000 looks in excellent condition mine has not arrived as yet but not expecting it to look as good as that one.
Re the Vespa time to rebuild that PSU me thinks! For the record I joined the KW group last night and it was as quick as that.Would certainly recomend.

After later obtaining a KW2000B, then a 2000A, I'm keeping the PSU intact, and will refurb it if I later pickup a Vespa on its own. Too often you see KW kit for sale without a PSU. I also hate seeing a KW2000 series being sold as two separate items on eBay.
