Circuit sought for Test Oscillator TS-47/APR
This is a 1945 vintage US Signal Corps VHF - AM oscillator covering 40 to 500 Mc/s in two bands, made by Fairchild. I'm told they are rare in the UK.
If anyone has a manual or circuit or can suggest a (preferably free!) source, it would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Phil

Phil,
That looks a bit of a beast, the only reference that I could find on the web is This. Never really purchased anything from there, so cannot comment. HTH, Paul. |

Re: Circuit sought for Test Oscillator TS-47/APR
Hello Paul, hope you're well and thanks for your help.
I've tried out this unit, and it produces a signal and the calibration is not far out according to my Hunter 2GHz frequency counter, but the 1kHz modulation is absent so it needs some work. The valves are both type 9002, and luckily I have several spares. Even without a circuit diagram it shouldn't be too difficult to restore it to full working order. Kind regards, and nice to see your latest Avo 8 resurrection! Phil

S-W, thanks for that link, I had already found it but it contains no circuit or component information.
Andy, thanks for that address, I'll give him a try. Cheers and thanks again, Phil

Re: Circuit sought for Test Oscillator TS-47/APR
Once upon a time I had several of these along with the manual.
I think I have the manual but will have to look for it. There was an article about these in 73 Magazine circa 1961 or 1962 and I think that has the schematic. 73 is available for free viewing on the web but I do not have the URL of the site hosting them at hand. If all that is wrong is that the modulation isn't working, these are so simple that you should be able to fix it without a schematic. Just check all the resistors (in-circuit is OK) for any that have gone high or open, and consider replacing any paper capacitors as well as suspecting the bathtub capacitor/s. Can't remember if there are any paper capacitors in there. These were originally used during the war to check the SCR-522 and ARC-1 / ARC-4 VHF radios on the flight line before take-off. I'll post back here if I turn up the manual. It was just a few pages stapled together as I recall. |
