Excelsior 55 dial drive .
Having made a new front panel, I removed all the pulleys etc, the pulleys were fixed on pillars which were riveted to the front panel, these had to be drilled out, how to fix them on the new panel! I drilled and tapped for 6 BA screws, the other fixings were just bent over lugs so no problem. Time to attempt the dial drive, some two hours later I had it working, it would have been sooner if the picture on the internet was correct, it seemed to be OK but when offering the dial I discovered the tracking was reversed, LF was HF and reverse buer, time to get the thinking hat on, so the cords on the drum need reversing! not so easy, but I had success in the end, there is a clever little device which allows only a few turns on the tuning spindle.
New dials made by Ben Dijkma . The next job is to paint the case, needs a bit of thinking about. Mick. |

Hats off and a salute to the escapologist for getting out of that!
What are the two mini drives at the bottom for?

Ah, yes!
Why use just a knob with a mark on it and a few engraved letters when some string, a spring in some sleeving, a drum and a pulley can be added to the mix? My most "Gallic" set is quite restrained in comparison.
