Anyone know what this is?
Can anyone tell what this is. Label on it says 1939 GEC. 4081 Tube. Its all made from brass sheet. Is it an early scope or avionics test gear? Google search came up with nothing.
The valve sticking out of it is a U10 rectifier. Last edited by Bomber county; 20th Sep 2020 at 11:26 am. Reason: more info |

Re: Anyone know what this is?
Looks like it is a CRO. On Amazon there is a paperback about it, a reprint from Wireless World.

This can be downloaded from https://worldradiohistory.com/Wirele...d_Magazine.htm
Looks like the article is about the 4081 CRO tube rather than your unit specifically, maybe your unit is made from the magazine article. David |

Re: Anyone know what this is?
It does look either homemade or maybe a prototype or something.

Re: Anyone know what this is?
Interesting historical artefact, if nothing else, from the days when an "oscillograph" was an indication as opposed to measuring instrument. Manufacturer's or broadcaster's test gear, or some other small-run application like military servicing?
I wonder if it originally had an early selenium rectifier and a subsequent user subbed the add-on U10? The latter contrasts rather dramatically with the rest of the instrument's portable presentation! |
