Dickie, you could try a tuned counterpoise, I have a similar problem with about 20 feet between my rig and direct earth, I have a tapped inductor tuned by around 500pf variable and this works fine, you should be able to find references on the net.

Just come across this thread and thought I should point out the possible dangers of introducing an additional earth connection if your property uses the Protective Multiple Earthing system (as many do).

Worth looking at the following article:

Yes. My recommendation of the safety capacitor between radio chassis (or radio rf earth) and true 'garden stake' earth still bears true. All AC/DC and live chassis equipment will have one of these by design anyhow (between chassis and the earth jack at the rear of the radio...likewise with the aerial jack unless it's a galvanically isolated design) and that also includes live chassis TVs where the Belling Lee socket outer is isolated on a piece of paxolin.

Any AC only (floating chassis, exposed metalwork) equipment should really be retro-fitted with a proper 3-core mains lead anyhow simply for safety's sake...putting this factor above the desire for an adequate rf/signal earth...even though it wouldn't have been done like this new, insulation gets old you know!

Water & gas pipes and radiator earths are now specifically outlawed by IEE regulations as a means of providing a Protective Earth Conductor.
