Default GRUNDIG TK 400Ua

Hi I have a GRUNDIG 400Ua which I believe was made in the UK it plays great but record is very faint on all tracks and does not wipe the previous record just seems to faintly record over it .Does any wan now what it could be I have not got a service manual or circuit diagram as I can't seem to get one anywhere .Any help would be appreciated Thanks
