Exclamation Ready to watch the close down of analogue

Hi all.
As you may or may not know, I've had to cancel the close down party due to the time changes by the authorities for Sandy's analogue transmissions.
After an operation on Saturday I'm still pretty sore but Faith helped me move my beloved vintage tellies into the kitchen, ready for 6AM on Wednesday so I can watch the remaining 4 analogue TV channels go off.
I'm going to try and record this happening on a camera & VCR, hopefully this will turn out well enough to post on YouTube at a later date.
Anyway: I thought you'd like to see all 4 set's up and running and ready for Wednesday morning.

Starting from the left.
HMV 2815 - 25 Inch Thorn 1500 Chassis (1974)
Indesit 12LGD - Bright orange portable (Seventies)
Ferguson 3653 - 19 inch Thorn 1400 (1965)
PYE 51K7323/15T - 20 inch colour set fitted with the KT3 Chassis. (1981)

I have 2 friends popping in on Tuesday evening (12th), one's a forum member and the other is a friend of mine who appreciates vintage electronics and those who keep them up and running.
If there is anyone who is local and feels like dropping in for a cup of tea and a bit of a chinwag for an hour or two after 7PM, please PM me and I'll give you my details.
My 1957 Defiant will also be running on Tuesday night.

Kind Regards
Dr. Dave

The passing of a golden age, to be replaced by a c*** one! We will need UHF modulators after tonight. Wish I could drop in, but it's too far away.

Cheers,

Steve P.

Sounds Like a good day to be at Doc, a celebration of the passing of a Golden Age, but I am unable to visit.

Hi
Hope you enjoy (if that's the right word) the closedown. Ours happened about eighteen months ago now and although I didn't think it would be that different, things just aren't the same - we miss the snow and ghosting!!

I'm glad i am not the only one doing this as iv'e done moel-y-parc/winter hill and The Wrekin stage 1 as i have a pile of vcr's on the readyand they are on my youtube channel.

I did have the vcr's set up for Llandonna but we had a powercut 10 mins before the closedown so i missed that one.

I will miss analogue from sandy so good work dave i for one will look forward to seeing your video.

Oct or Nov 2012 will be VHF Analogue close down here. I can get two VHF TX sites, four channels, 2 each site. The other 2 channels on each site are on UHF. They switched one channel from Band I to Band III only a few years ago.

The only problem I have is the big black bar on the TV screens when the camera's pointing at them, and I don't know what to do to stop it

Can you change the frame rate of the camera? Some allow you to record at 24fps which will prevent the black bars, but give you flicker instead. However dependant on the exposure settings you can get round this to some extent.

The only camera I have at my disposal is a CCTV camera that I used to use as a webcam and studio monitor when I used to do radio broadcasting from home (

adapt the camera to have a frame sync in.

Feed that from off air tuner.

Some CCTV cameras have it to allow switching between sources on a timelapse recording version VHS.

Sorted, my digital camera takes moving pix and I've just bought a wonderful Chinese camcorder from Maplin for £30. That'll be good enough between them for what I want.

Dr-Watts,

I (just about) watched C4 on CH21 from Sandy Heath early two mornings ago - assisted by the weather. For me it will be the end of a DX-era.

And would you Adam and Eve it...
Just had a call from a friend at the local newspaper asking if I was doing anything and if I was, could they send a photographer round !
Unfortunately it looks like it'll be tomorrow morning after the shut down so I'll have to dig some modulators out

Angry Re: Ready to watch the close down of analogue

Spend yesterday evening until late moving chairs and tables round to get the best shot of all four tellies, I even bought a digital camcorder so I had three camera's so as to not miss a thing...
I called the helpline for the umpteenth time to confirm the switch off time, "Oh yes Mr. W, the first one to go off is 6AM, the next at 6AM & about 40 seconds and so on..."
So, I set the alarm for 5AM, got up, came down, switched all the camera's and VCR's on, then to the TV's --- TURNED SANDY OFF EARLY ! ! !
I missed the whole thing.
Upset, you bet.
Oooh I could rip a tissue

Kind Regards
Angry of Milton Keynes
