Repurposed parts: Vent-Axia extractor fan.
1980s-era "Vent-Axia" extractor-fans are these days considered persona-non-grata in kitchens and bathrooms. If you see one of these being consigned to the junkpile - snaffle it because it will contain a useful 400V-rated motor start/run capacitor and an aluminium screen that can easily be repurposed as a speaker-grille.

Re: Repurposed parts: Vent-Axia extractor fan.
It always amazes me how people throw things away without checking for useful parts, and then they go to Maplins and spend ten or fifteen pounds on something they could have had a dozen of if they had taken a few minutes to salvage things.
I have a friend who says 'oh, I can't be bothered with all that - it's only a fiver to buy one' but those fivers soon add up, especially when there's a journey involved and fuel cost is added. Years ago, the mrs used to say 'what are you hoarding all that junk for?' until she started to realise that repairing something broken often costs nothing but some time... |

I was taught...
The Rich get richer and the Poor get poorer because they keep doing the same thing. I didn't really understand until I came across this... Rich people buy Assets (that produce more income) Poor people buy STUFF.

Re: Repurposed parts: Vent-Axia extractor fan.
Hi,
My wife hates sending me to the bins at the edge of our village as I often return with an appliance that's been dumped. If they're beyond use, I strip them for any useful bits. Consequently, I have jars full of micro-switches, thermal fuses, small switches and the like. Word is now getting round, however, so now I'm offered washing machines, etc. to see if I can salvage anything from them. Anyone want a solenoid valve or water level pressure switch? Cheers, Pete.

At the risk of getting told off and looking at the title of this thread................ are we to assume you are now an Ex-tractor fan?
sorry Andy. |

We call the using of old items for new i.e. differnet applications 'UP cycling' rather than re-cycling.
A recent vent axia (ex kitchen) was used in a small spray booth for Mrs k_e. Last edited by Brian R Pateman; 27th Sep 2014 at 6:32 am. Reason: . |

Yes I'm an ex-tractor fan! [the vent-axia having been replaced by a rather more-third-millennium cooker hood with a continuously variable speed fan motor].
