Pye PE225 Radio found in Israel.
Split from this thread; https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=38153
Hello everyone - sorry for the slight delay in posting pictures - here are a few with all the dust (which I understood I am not to wipe off!) I took these pics with my mobile but if there is interest I could get hold of a digital camera which would show the model number which is in very small print. By the way, the second radio has a label on the back which says 'PYE' PE 225 - is that interesting? Rahel |

Re: HMV 904 TV & Radio found in Israel.
I tried to find out something about the PYE on the Internet but haven't discovered much except that its probably from the mid-1950s.

Hello Rahel,
The radio isn't worth much, I think, though it could be restored and made to work without too much difficulty. In the UK, it would certainly be only worth £10 or so. Nick. Last edited by Brian R Pateman; 10th Mar 2009 at 3:36 pm. Reason: References to original thread removed. |

Re: Pye PE225 Radio found in Israel.
I think that this is probably an export version of the P224. That was a "piano key" style set with LW, MW, SW1, SW2, SW3 and Gram. It boasted a magic eye as this one does.
The P224 was introduced in the 1959 model year. The PE range of sets were the export range. They were provided with lots of Short Wave coverage and were definitely the top end of the range. It is possible that the PE 225 dispensed with LW and replaced it with an additional MW, possibly a "Trawler" or "Marine" band. Either way this was an expensive set in its time and is worthy of restoration - it doesn't look too bad. (I must admit to a bias toward the products of the Pye company, as regulars will know). Regards,

Re: Pye PE225 Radio found in Israel.
The export sets do tend to be worth a bit more, it must be said. But this is a very nice set (they both are) and even replacement cloth can be bought.
If you want help doing it up then no trouble, we're a friendly lot. Or find a local engineer who may be able to help. As it is, for goodness sake don't plug it in. Cheers, Steve P.

Brian hello - I am also sending a few close ups of the Pye although now I understand that it is quite a common radio

Re: Pye PE225 Radio found in Israel.
As has this PE225 - it says so under both knobs for some reason. The Early PCBs are rather prone to damage from overheating especially around the Rectifier and Output stages.
Regards,
