Hello Lee,

Are you sure that is the model number of your Philips radio ? Is it a Norelco brand set ? Would you post a pic of the radio please so we can find the European version of it.

I have only one Philips radio that I know was sold in North America, the B5X04A here

Is yours similar ?

Howard

Hello Lee,

One or two Philips radios built in Switzerland had model numbers starting B5CH but usually the next two characters would be numbers and the last an 'A' or 'U'. The Philips model number is on a small oblong shaped label stuck onto the chassis and viewable through a slot cut in the rear cover. They do tend to come off or get damaged though ....

What valves are fitted to the set, and what wavebands ? Any 'Bi-Ampli' or 'Stereo' labels on the dial or front? Norelco seem to have been active mainly in the late 1950s so it shouldn't be difficult to find your set. A pic of it would be useful.

Howard

Hello Lee,

I haven't found even one Philips radio which resembles yours which is an odd one, as it is a Bi-Ampli set (2 x EL84) yet it's AM only, and all the Bi-Ampli sets I found have FM as well except for the B7X65A but that has slightly different valves.

Try and find the model label.

Hello Lee,

Your Philips radio is indeed a model CP 3691 but I cannot find any trace of another example of it or any European market Philips set like it.

It is very unusual, being an Philips AM only set housed in a Plano style case with the Bi-Ampli amplifier and two loudspeakers. At a guess I'd say it was built around 1960.

In your quest to find a circuit diagram for it, I think your best bet is to ask about it on one of the Dutch radio websites, as the set was probably built in Holland. This site is the Dutch historical radio association.

http://www.nvhr.nl

I've found these Philips Plano radios to be very robust with first class quality components, the only parts worth checking/replacing are any black pitch capacitors.
