Smile Regency Model TR-6 (1957) volume distortion

Hi

I have a Regency TR-6, which dates from 1957. I can tune to a station, but when I try to increase the volume ut becomes unstable and emits a loud 'rasping' noise; I suspect a dodgy electrolytic somewhere, but would welcome any suggestions!

Thanks

Mark

Well first of all, change of a certain type of cap. Anything sticky, has HUNTS written on it or is Black + Red, Change it.

I notice you're new, so take some time out and have a read : start here and keep pressing next!

This covers all valve and transistor sets. Your set sounds as though it has a capacitor related problem to me!

Cheers,

Particularly suspect would be the large value electrolytic across the battery (100 microfarads or so.

Chances are it's one or more of the Nashville electrolytics that have bit the dust. They weren't all that hot when they were first made, and go downhill from there....
