That's a bad tear. Use Tissue paper and PVA. Coffee filter paper may be too rigid.

PVA and kitchen roll or bits of newspaper is the usual solution. Lots of things will work.

Cigarette papers are good for this since they are all pre-cut to a handy size.

Some people like to dilute the PVA with water so it doesn't dry to a thick layer.

It's also sold as craft glue or paper glue. Poundland sell it, along with many other places.

I wouldn't use adhesive tape of any sort, as you never know how the adhesive will age. For a speaker you could use Micropore surgical tape then apply a coat of dilute PVA, but there isn't a lot of point.

Ok i'll rule that one out, So do i apply glue to the backside of the paper then stick it to the cone ?

Daft question but never done it before

wet the surface of the cone with the diluted PVA, lay the tissue paper on gently and dab with a brush wetted with the glue solution to get rid of air bubbles and to shape the repaired area. You may want to dampen some of the rest of the cone with solution so it dries uniformly.

Depending on access, you can put tissue on the back side as well.

Let it dry and decide if you need another layer.

I've never done this either but actually had a need to do it today so this post was very useful. My speaker doesn't have a rip like the OPs speaker though, mine has been eaten by some insect, but is it the same process? just wet it and layer tissue paper? and should I cover a wider area as the insect may have weakened the material but it not be visible to the eye?

thanks
Joe

Very nice. Does it sound OK, and not rattle? What about the immersive sense of depth, and pin-prick detailing which, though precise, is never harsh?
