My friend has just bought a Ferguson 3022 record player and it worked ok for a few hours before suddenly stopping mechanically. It looks a pretty standard BSR type deck and measuring the supply to the motor reads ok, but the motor shaft is stationary. As this was working I cannot believe it has seized up in a sudden manner and the coil resistance reads ok on the transformer….. anyone know where to look next, also are these motors available anywhere?

Does the motor turn over by hand? It's not jammed by anything?

This uses a variant of the BSR UA15 deck and the motors in these very rarely fail.
Carefully remove the platter and try to spin with your fingers the stepped spindle coming up from the top of the motor. Move the idler wheel out of the way. If it does not spin, then oil the bottom bearing of the motor casing and try again. Ideally use sewing machine oil, if not then 3 in 1 or similar.

Thanks for the responses so far…. I can spin the motor by hand but it doesn’t really’run on’. I have some sewing machine oil coming tomorrow so will lube it anyway
