GB1SOE will be operating from Windy Hill (the old WW2 clandestine comms site) in Whaddon to commemorate the anniversary of VE day.
Probably with a replica Whaddon Mk3 Tx and an HRO Rx as on previous occasions, from around 0930 local time. The Tx is crystal controlled and CW only. Operation will be on 40m, usually between 7030 and 7040, we have several crystals available. Main ops will be G4JGG and M0PJD. There may be an option to use 60m too. The Tx can often be recognised by its chirpy signal, depending on whether a big 10X rock is in use or a small modern one! Generally there is a small display of 1940's vintage radio kit in the tent along with the active station. All contacts (and visitors) welcome. |

Following a PM, I should clarify that's Whaddon, Bucks, 4 miles West of Bletchley - not the one near Royston.

And another clarification / correction: I should have referred to it as Windy Ridge, not Windy Hill...

Thanks for coming over to see us.
We had quite a few visitors, mostly from Whaddon village and the local area. Contacts were made on 40m and, later, 60m. One of the 40m stations was in France with an original WW2 spy set. It was nice to have that original Whaddon Mk3 Tx on show (courtesy of David G3ZPA) along with the replica we were using for the station. And that round speaker on top of the HRO actually contains another transmitter... |
