Ferguson 624 RG
Hello. I am a new user to this forum. I have just got my hands on a Ferguson 624 RG and was wondering if there were any other owners of this that could help with it. The stylus needs replacing and the radio isn't picking up stations. I have contacted a few retailers about the stylus as it seems to match the Ferguson 603 and 604 models which is currently available. Is there access to a user guide or something similar. Bearing in mind that I'm a finger and thumbs kind of person.

Re: Ferguson 624 RG
Post a picture of the cartridge (the bit that holds the stylus) as this may have been replaced in the past.
The picture on Radiomuseum shows a TC8 turnover cartridge fitted, if this is what's fitted then it is not stereo compatible and will need to be replaced if you want to play stereo records. |

Re: Ferguson 624 RG
Warning,This radiogram uses a live chassis.
That means that the internal metalwork is connected to one side of the mains. Extreme care must be taken when servicing it. There are a few capacitors that need to be changed. If you don't know what you are doing then leave it to someone who does. |

Re: Ferguson 624 RG
Yes this is a basic mono radiogram with "U" series valves, so the mains lead must be connected so that the chassis inside is not live. It was originally supplied with Mono stylus for LPs/45s. Don't attempt to play Stereo LPs on this without a cartridge/stylus change. We can advise.

Re: Ferguson 624 RG
If this radiogram is unrestored, then it will need some electrical work doing to it before it can be used reliably and safely. The work isn't especially difficult, but if you are a complete beginner with valve technology then you should try to find someone local to you who can restore it for you, or at least give you a hand.
As has been mentioned, one side of the mains is connected to the internal chassis. You shouldn't power it up with any of the covers removed until you understand all the potential dangers and how to circumvent them. |

Re: Ferguson 624 RG
Thank you all. My local record store owner in Ballymena pointed me in the direction of a local man that can take a look at it for me. I'll leave it in his capable hands and enjoy the fruits of his labour

It's absolutely perfect. Sound clarity and volume is phenomenal. Better than I expected.
