Successor to Traditional Radio Grilles (Sid Chaplin). Due to near full retirement Sid is now taking more of a back seat. Russell Chaplin is continuing to offer cloths and fittings for vintage wireless & audio use. The new website offers a expanding range of cloths, fittings and used recordings from 78s to CD Singles.

Whilst shops, other than Maplin, selling Electronic components, are thin on the ground now, Hardings in Cheltenham High Street, is still very much in business. I recently bought some capacitors and other items there, and found them to be very helpful. Well worth a visit.

Just used them today for the first time since I was at school(!). The range is excellent, the website miles easier to use than CPC's, delivery was very rapid (complete with text message telling me the precise predicted delivery time), and the packing looked like it had been done by someone with a brain (take note, other suppliers!). Nick. |

Another thing with Rapid, applicable to us, is that if you select 'all products' rather than just the electronic range, you gain access to emery cloth, sandpaper, humbrol enamel paints, wire wool, rustins wood finishes, plastic card and all sorts of craft-related radio restoration materials!

I haven't personally dealt with this company, but a browse of their website shows that they stock a wide range of components which would be useful to those who repair & restore vintage radios, etc., and to the guitar fraternity. They are based in the USA, but will ship internationally, though the cost of shipping and the delivery times involved varies widely. A number of options are mentioned on site.
Amongst other things they stock are Electronic Vibrators to replace the mechanical types used in 1950s car radios, Electrol;ytic and other capacitors, including dual & multiple can-types, Grille Cloth, knobs, including 'chicken head' types, potentiometers in various spindle types, etc., etc. One caveat is that any switched potentiometers are likely only to be single pole types made for 120v AC mains. Go to www.tubesandmore.com for further details. The site is headed 'Antique Electronic Supply |

I forgot to mention that www.tubesandmore.com also stock the type of grommets used to mount record player motors. They sell them in packs of ninefor (U.S.)$6.75, which works out at 75c. (about 60p) each (subject to carriage charges and possible VAT of course.

Re Bardwell electronics. We worked with Bardwell electronics for nearly two years. we arranged to purchase all the stock of parts from valves, to transistors, transformers and much more. If you are looking for radio parts feel free to call us on 01143605355 or send us an email to info@myelectronicstec.com We could not see 70 odd years of stock go to the tip. All the Bradwell stock has been saved. Please pass the word on as we have millions of parts. Regards Kev Last edited by Station X; 15th Nov 2017 at 9:10 pm. Reason: Title change. |

Hi folks,
I have received very good value from:- http://bright-components.co.uk/ Caps suitable as cathode decouplers, and some hi-voltage poly film caps useable for valve gear. Antique Electronic Supply:- https://www.tubesandmore.com/ Is based in the USA so we Brits have the penalty of postage from the land of Uncle Sam but they do have a large stock of hard to get parts geared towards guitar amp applications. |

I just wanted to put out a mention and massive thank you to Cricklewood Electronics. Mentioned in this forum as a trusted supplier.
Really very very helpful, they found everything I need on thier shelf and it's in the post tonight. Highly recommended to talk to on the phone, my order/begging for help email for capacitors, resistors and a volume pot was answered within a couple of hours, and one very pleasant phone call with Syd about 'this and that' just now and the parts are on the way.... It hopefully won't be long before my garrard sings again. |

Another general component dealer deserves a mention. ESR Electronic Components based in Cullercoats just north of Newcastle upon Tyne on the coast is a gold mine of general components and tools etc. I have dealt with them on several occasions and always found them friendly and knowledgeable. The website is www.esr.co.uk for anyone requiring mail orders. No connection with the company other than as a satisfied customer.

Many of my restorations have used their replica fabric covered wire and they have a fantastic range of speaker cloth. They are helpful and have a good range of components & parts and reasonably priced valves. I'm very surprised they are not widely known and used by restorers in the UK, as they are and have been for decades "the go to place" in the USA for vintage radio & TV enthusiasts. I recently cited them on another thread as they supply Alnico magnet Jensen speakers. They also do quite a few guitar amp parts etc and lots of transformers & Hammond products. The postage is usually very reasonable to me in Australia. I don't know how it works for the UK. |

Used this place a couple of times from a certain site on the net and found them reasonable and quick. In with my package was a slip advertising their website .
https://www.switchelectronics.co.uk/ Something to note is that they still stock lead /tin solder in various diameters . Last edited by Station X; 31st Aug 2019 at 1:07 pm. Reason: Threads merged. |

Not knocking anyones prices, but it seems it might be far cheaper buying a load of old knobs, retrieving the grub screws and disposing of the remains by whatever means.
I can see that in some cases the screw will be worth more than the knob it is fitted into! I think I will hang on to my several kilos of metric and ba nuts/washers/screws/spacers/standoffs as a hedge against inflation! Rob

If you are in Ireland (the larger part) then it has to https://ie.farnell.com/
Free courier delivery but make sure you add your Eircode to the delivery instructions as your Eircode will not be recognised and will be deleted from your address. The courier will not find you without an Eircode address. Farnell is building an Ireland (the larger part) specific department, which will ensure that the Eircode is recognised in future. On the off-chance I can't get what I want then it's eBay for UK suppliers via an AddressPal UK virtual address to reduce postal cost. Ireland (the larger part) has no decent suppliers of anything and if we did have any they would charge double UK prices and An Post would further kick us in the teeth with extortionate postal charges. |

I wanted a Q Max chassis punch for octal valves. I found a site called zoro, they are based in Leicester. They do Q Max in imperial sizes and supplied a punch at a reasonable cost.
