I started this over two years ago!
Thinking it would be an easy fix l swopped out eight wax capacitors and one dried up electrolytic, two resistors which had gone very high, checked the valve heater's for continuity and plugged in the lamp limiter. Nothing! A quick examination showed that the output transformer was o/c on the primary. One request in the forum later and I had a nos Radiospares tx (thanks Dave Horris). Then life got in the way... Holidays, Covid, decorating, you know how it goes. Today I drilled a new hole for the slightly smaller transformer and fitted it in and wired it up. Success! With just it's loop aerial hidden behind the red flock lid interior, it pulls in the usual medium wave stations, and with my FM/AM converter (thanks John Oldjohn) it's currently playing Radio Two. Forgot to say, the exterior was very dirty and scuffed so it got two coats of LCD (liquid colour doctor) in scarlet and cream, although the pictures make it look white. This will be my workshop radio for a while, until I fancy a change.

What a lovely looking set. Very clean indeed, excellent stuff!
I have a Vidor CN936 on the bench right now & the covering is a bit tatty in places, I shall have to see if LCD is available in oxblood.

Can you clarify the surface colouring product you used? It looks very good.

Here you go! Although it's intended for leather furniture I've used it on fabric, such as the Vidor and that vinyl-like covering found on record players. The surface you treat decides the finish; my Bush record player has a nice satin sheen to it, and the Vidor is quite Matt.
I'll dig the Bush out tomorrow so you can see what I mean.

So it's basically leather dye. It seems to work very well.

Forgot to include this picture of the output transformer box, just to jog people's memories! I wonder how long ago was it that it became RS?

Nice job, Ken, that looks amazing. These battery valve portables give very good performance and are amongst my favourite types of set. Did you make up any replica batteries?

I didn't Phil, as I've not got a computer or a printer! Perhaps one day...
