I'd just this second remembered Solartron, given I have a couple of bench DMMs of theirs.

You are correct, the latter wasn't mentioned way back in Post #15

If you gave me the description, without naming it, I might have guessed "Eidophor".

I've remembered we had an EIL Chronotron at work, sadly chucked only a couple of years ago.
There is an Austron time code generator in my collection, as well as a broken Huntron tracker and a Phaostron VOM (also made panel meters).
Almost forgot Systron Donner, another test equipment maker.

Apparently the suffix 'tron' is from the Greek meaning instrument.

It was in The Sleeper. Barbarella had "The Excessive Machine"

Barbarella's space suit glass helmet was the same shape as the Western Elctric 717A vacuum tube, often used to soup-up the input RF amplifier of AR88s!

Anyone seen a Teletron transistor portable? Five models are listed in Radio! Radio! as appearing between 1960 and 1964, with the first of them including SW, but I don't think I've ever met one and RM.org hasn't a single photo. Not Teleton, those exist in larger numbers and would be OT for the thread.

Rectron was a brand name used by RCA for its early vacuum tube rectifiers, I notice that the name is now used by a Taiwanese manufacturer of solid state rectifiers.

Not that I remember these: Pogotron, a game for C64 (and probably others). Not quite a fit, but Spiratronics. And relevant here. There is such a thing as a spiratron too. Musitron anyone? (synth). Tomytronic (Tony) did a version of a game based on Tron. Curvytron, another game. It seems think of a word, add tron, and it's already there!

Has already the company "Emotron" been mentioned? GC Drives & Automation Emotron, a supplier and maker of fine VFD drives. Some years ago, I ran a project involving them. Their successfully finished task was to get four ac motors of 450kW @ 690V 3ph running synchronized between 150 and 980 rpm.

Anyone remember Plustron TVs? Small enough for camping etc, or some TV-DX chasing with their Band I/III + UHF model.

If you see any of those attached to the end of a brand name you can be virtually assured that it is low-end, if not actually junk.
Radiotron valves weren't junk, especially the AWV ones made in Oz.
AWA had a licensing arrangement with RCA to use the "Radiotron" & "Radiola" names.

On test, (AVO tester), the AWV valves were consistently better than spec, with Siemens next then US Radiotron, Sylvania, followed by Philips & EEV neck & neck, then Mullard, with Brimar a length or so behind!

These were brand new valves in the late 1960s, early 1970s.

The Compactron, a hollow state approach to integrated circuitry. Introduced by General Electric in 1960 and used (for example) in their Porta-Color set.

The Sharp Linytron TV. Discussed here.

Don't forget the Megatron: the saturable reactor-controlled capacitor discharge unit that delivers a 5us 359 Amp (peak) pulse to the business-end of the half-cycle generators of the Megapulse LORAN transmitters.

Easy to see where the 'tron' came there!

Of course Megatron is the chief villain in the Transformers series, where he battles Optimus Prime for control of the planet Cybertron!!
