Default Pye Shaver mic to Ten-Tec Corsair.

The Pye/Philips Shaver mic is a design-classic from the 70s; we had loads of these back in my days running a PMR business. [macho taxi-drivers used to call them the 'Ladyshave' after one of Philips's more popular products].

Got one at the West of England rally last week, and wanted to hook it up to my Ten-Tec Corsair-II acquired from a fellow forumeer.

The Corsair's designers helpfully provide a pin on the mic-socket that is intended for electret-mic bias, great - the Shaver needs electet bias too!

The shaver's PTT works by taking a 10V feed [which supplies the electret] and applying this back to the radio when the PTT is pressed. The Corsair needs a classic 'ground to transmit' PTT feed.

A quick re-work - inside the shaver's case is a small PCB that contains the electret bias-components and a treble-cut network. I removed the white wire from the PCB to the PTT switch, and replaced this with a wire linking the PTT switch's now-redundant terminal to the green/screen ground terminal.

Basically, disconnect the wire from pin 8 and connect it to pin 2.

So now at the radio-end of the curly-coil wire we have:

Red: audio output

Green/screening-braid: ground

White: electret bias-voltage

Red: audio output

Blue: PTT line, ground-to-transmit.

Put it all back together - it works! And to celebrate I worked a station in Bonaire on 28MHz.
