I have a Philips 470A with an impressive round tuning dial of long-dead radio stations. I suppose with a long-wire aerial back in 1938 it might have been possible to receive some of these in favourable conditions, at least the closer ones. Eiffel Tower perhaps?

Not me - can't say I recall spotting Moorside Edge on a tuning scale before either!

Must be a continental model made between 1943 and 1953, yes? That's where Ottringham was aimed, although there was a Home Service relay TX for the E. Riding.
