Question Rc4558 = Ca1458??

A CA1458 in my TES(Italian) FM/AM Signal Generator had failed, and I happened to have a couple of RC4558s 'in stock'. I know that the pin-outs are identical, and, from the data I have the 4558 should be a straight swap. Can anyone confirm this? (or am I afor even asking the question??)

Hi!

Yes, the RC4558 will work in your generator no problem - the '4558 was one of very many multi-sourced standard linear ICs!

They certainly look compatible- at least going from 1458 (basically a dual 741) to a 4558. The 4558 has a higher gain bandwidth, but that's probably no big deal.

Detailed data at:

1458 http://www.intersil.com/data/fn/fn531.pdf

4558 http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/rc4558.pdf

In any case, pretty much anything that's pin compatible will sub for a 741!

Thanks, Chris - I thought that was the case, but it's nice to get a second opinion
