Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
There is an 'Early vintage Garrard radiogram' on ebay which looks to have a very similar chassis

Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
Ah, thanks, looks like an HMV or Marconi, maybe. have asked the seller. Also looks like a big expensive output valve, which will be why it is missing.

Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
The fact that's it's described as a Garrard implies that there may be no maker's name on this one either. We'll see though.

Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
Looking at Radiomuseum, there is a Marconi 49 with very similar face, particularly the metal surround to the tuning scale, similar to mine and the listed radiogram. The chassis is mostly diffent though. http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/canadia_ma_49.html

Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
You could always pass it on to Chas. Miller at 'The Radiophile' for inclusion in his Radiocination series......
That would make a good read. Cheers. SimonT.

Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
The radiogram pictured in post 22 looks to me like a Marconi 249.
Mis described in the original listing as a Garrard because it's fitted with a Garrard deck so nothing new there.

Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
Thanks Brian, I will look through the trader sheets when I have a chance. The seller has replied to say there is no plate or id other than Garrard. B&^^%$!

Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
I doubt it's an HMV/Marconi, they made their own record changers, it looks like it started life with that Garrard changer, also the mains transformer doesn't look HMV-ish, they are fairly distinctive

Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
And I haven't seen any HMV/Marconis with roundish dial escutcheons like that (but could be wrong of course).
Maybe a surplus RG cabinet + a surplus chassis + Garrard deck? |

Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
I've been getting confused again. How about Canadian Marconi, as per the link on post 25? The dial looks exactly the same in all three cases. I guess this was no relation at all to our UK companies?

Re: Do you recognise this wireless?
And ...sorry about the editing .... so much for that theory - I think my set has an identical eschutchion to the radiogram, but not the Canadian Marconi ....
