This forum will be offline and may show error messages for up to an hour (but probably less) between 9pm and 10pm (UK time, GMT/UTC+1) this evening.
This is due to scheduled maintenance by the hosting company to update MySQL from 5.7 to 8.0. If you are posting during that time please copy/paste your text elsewhere so it isn't lost and you can try later if the forum is offline when you submit it. |

Depending on what time the maintenance finishes, I may not be able to remove the notice at the top of the page until tomorrow morning.

From error emails this appears to have taken around 90 minutes to complete. I don?t know if it was offline the whole time or up and down.
All appears to be working fine now. Apologies for the inconvenience. |

Paul, I'm positive that the apostrophes in this thread
https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=203953 were displayed correctly last time I looked. (codepage problem?) edit. The apostrophe in this post displays correctly as you can see.

I think the default character set changing to UTF-8 with the MySQL update.
Probably the only option is to manually edit these threads and posts as we find them but I will see if there is a setting or configuration change first. |

There is no easy solution to this. New threads and posts will be fine.
If anyone spots any other affected threads or posts please click the Report Post triangle icon and ask the mod team to edit it. This probably happens due to text being copied/pasted from a word processor that changes apostrophises and quotes from straight to slanted. |

I'm sure you have discovered by now it's affecting all the pound sign, and no doubt all the other usual suspects like the ampersand.

I have just changed the HTML header character set from "ISO-8859-1" to "UTF-8", and set the database character set setting in the forum config file from "latin1" to "utf8" (to match the database default).
Let's see if that has helped or not... |
