Default Retro Tech Emor Globe seller sought!

Hello - a long shot... I was at Retro Tech and took many photos. A couple of days later I sifted through them and in one saw a photograph on a stall showing an Emor Globe for sale for £500. I had no idea what such a thing was, and researched it. Now, I’d like to try to contact the seller for more details! I thought it was just possible that someone here might know who it is. Many thanks.

Emor Globes are sought after by design enthusiasts as well as the vintage radio fraternity, and well restored examples do sell for very high prices. They are actually only average performers by the standards of their era, but have the 'wow factor' that lots of people are prepared to pay for.

I didn’t see one there, but admittedly I only had quick looks around as I had to return to the stall. Perhaps it sold early? Could you post the picture here that shows it, we might recognise the stall holder.

I remember seeing a something globe on a stall, but not having a personal interest in it I didn't look to see what it was nor who was selling it, sorry.

Perhaps the picture in which you spotted it might give someone a clue.

No stall holder I’m afraid, or many other clues - but here’s the pic.

I remember seeing JVC sphere shell parts in a large box but this is a TV. Never saw an Emor Globe but did I not get chance to have a walk about until later.

That looks like a photograph next to the price. Maybe it wasn't at the fair "in person"?

Maybe someone remembers the stall from one of the other items in that photo... The cute little rim-drive tape recorder, perhaps?

It's a lot easier to notice and remember things which were actually there. The organisers may be able to help if the stall location is identified.

No, I don’t think it was actually there - I’m pretty sure I would have remembered it if it had been. I’ve sent an email to the organisers asking if they can help - a resounding silence so far! I think I remember where the stall was though - next to the same wall as the chuck wagon, but a fair way up towards the main area.

To me, it's clear that was a visible advert to hundreds of collectors that the stall holder had such a set for sale but not present at the show. Anyway, I hope you able to find the seller.

I remember seeing the recorder as I already have one. From your description of the stall’s location that should narrow it down to 3 or 4 at most. All stall holders had a map with all the stall numbers, unfortunately I’ve thrown mine away. I’m sure Greg (audiomagpie on this forum) will be able to help you contact the seller unless GDPR comes into play. Having been in this situation myself I appreciate your problem!

Good luck,

Peter

Be very careful here. I'm not casting aspersions at anyone, but these high value 'design classics' have been used in sales scams in the past.

That may well be what I saw, though I don't recall it being in a box. I just remember catching sight of something spherical, but didn't look to see what it was.

Hi Dave, That post #6 of mine was a waste of time, the photo was posted while I was posting and did not realise until it was too late to edit.

This could be what you mean (I was feeling trigger-happy, as you can see.)

The trail has gone rather cold, which is a shame as I’ve found a magazine with a schematic and a step by step repair guide. I’ll try one last avenue before giving up - does anyone have the map of stand numbers that was given to stall holders at Retro Tech? I think I can narrow the stand where I saw the photo down to two or three - if I knew the numbers perhaps (perhaps) I could persuade Greg to contact them on my behalf.

Having owned one and restored two Emor globes I'd point out that they're absolutely nothing special they're bodged together out of whatever was cheap that week and actually not a very good radio rather like the round Ekcos average radio but the box is a bit different save your cash and buy a radio that's actually good at what it does.

The Ekco A22 is a very good performer.
