Default I know I should not have. Class D wavemeter

I keep saying to myself I should not get any more, or I should pass some on, but once again something got the better of me.

this was after playing with the BC-221 I saw this unit up for grabs so decided the 4 hour round trip was worth it.

I need my bumps felling.

When I got there the fellow ask if I was into valves then and ended up with a box of valves for some extra cash as well.

Think I need to start a spreadsheet of database with what I have now.

If you've already got a BC221 and you feel the need for it's poor cousin, the Class D, then maybe you do need your bumps feeling.

In the sixties, I had a Class D and I lusted for a BC221. These things do the same job, but are in different leagues. The Class D was good enough for field work, but the BC221 was special.

Maybe you're suffering from Pokemon's syndrome (gotta gettem all!)

I tried to get the wave meter into the garage roof space but gave up will have another go tomorrow.
There seems to be a few Class D types from my brief look, this one seems to be an absorption wave meter as well as heterodyne.

Why did I get it because I had just played with the BC221 and wanted to see what else was around at the time. I also looked at the valves the magic eye tubes that were with it. The fact it has a mains PSU built in which may be good for projects!
The headphones seem to be in poor condition, the wires are off and earpiece loose, so suspect they have gone open circuit.
But to be honest the fact it is all there and seems to be in good condition for its age apart from the headphones and it seems a shame to dismantle it for bits.

Perhaps after I have got it working and done a simple video, it could go to some forces museum when I have finished with it?

It is the rarer type 2.

The original was a 6v vibrator PSU, no mains.

Why should having a BC221 influence whether you acquire a Class D Wavemeter?
How many radio collectors stop at one radio, or TV collectors stop at one TV?
They are all different so equally worth having!

I must check my 2 Class D,s and see if they are mains / battery or just battery. No, I have never met anyone who could stop at one item either! Collecteritis is the bug that bites.

It must be having had test gear as work. I just see it as tools rather than as things to collect... but the stuff seems to collect itself.

I had the less impressive Class D No 1 Mk II*
I'm trying to recall the significance of the asterisk, non-removable lid perhaps?
It was a game changer, allowing me to set my R107 to within 1kHz of an expected signal.

I know that the lid on this one is meant to be riveted to the box via wire hinges, so that the lid should only be able to fold flat to the case. These rivets have been removed, you can see the hinges on the first picture at the top. Being able to detach the lid does make it that little bit lighter when moving it around. It is for now in the garage roof space and will be brought back down for checking when time permits.
