Marconiphone 1930s HP Agreement
I found this Marconiphone 1930s HP Agreement in a box of service data I'm scanning, and thought some of you would find it interesting.

You had to sign across a 6d stamp, to stop any messing about!

Re: Marconiphone 1930s HP Agreement
I remember seeing an advert in Pratical Wireless for those R&TVS books in thee 1960s.There was an option to pay by installments, and
If you were under a certain age (18?) your father had to sign the form. Not either parent, specifically 'father'. If you were a married woman, your husband had to sign it. Thankfully things have improved since then. |

If it is after 1935 then the company is trying to restore the previous situation where the married couple are one legal entity (or at least I think that was the case)... There was a new law in 1935: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga...5-26/30/part/I |

Remember it was once possible to put an advert in the London Gazette declaring that you would no longer be liable for your wife’s debts. At the time it was considered that a wife had the inherent ability to order groceries and that the husband would naturally cover the debt. If, however, she ordered too many tins of Coleman’s mustard or Monkey brand soap action had to be taken! Sorry to extend the topic into non radio related fields. Peter |

Not much of 100 blyth road left from the looks of street view, certainly nothing to indicate it once housed the mighty marconiphone company .

In respect to the comment in #2 I think you will find that the Stamp Duty for receipts was and remained a 2d stamp until it was abolished in the late 1960s.

Re: Marconiphone 1930s HP Agreement
My recollection is that stamp duty (other than for property transactions) was not abolished until we went decimal in 1971. You used to have to pay the bank 2/6d for a book of 30 cheques to cover the embossed "duty paid" (2d) revenue stamp on each cheque.
