Default Garrard 4HF Problems

Can anyone help
I'm having problems with my Garrard 4HF
For some reason the variable speed control won't work

That's a chunky rheostat, as I recall. Is it not turning at all or moving but not affecting speed?

I've had one where it breaks up and the wires inside go all over the place, if the deck isn't earthed, you cold get a shock.

Could just be an intermittent connection to the rheostat. Best to remove the cage and check the wiring.

Have you tried a contact cleaner on the Rheostat slider and the windings that it touches?

If the rheostat fails to work properly after the actions suggested here, it could be replaced with a high wattage potentiometer. There is a thread on VE where this has been done successfully. The RC88 also has an identical rheostat.
