Default HMV 1127 - advice on mains lead wiring

I am half way through one of these. Someone has helpfully cut off the mains lead. It isn't simple. There is an existing thread here detailing the requirement for correct polarity and earthing.
Whilst I can probably work it our I wondered if someone could advise which is live and which is neutral in the picture below please? The complication of the plug to clock and associated switches is there. Maybe one of you has a chassis on the bench.
Any advice appreciated.

Not certain that it would much matter, remember that back in the days when these where new, a lot of mains plugs could be inserted into the outlet either way round.
In mainland Europe, a lot still can !

It is important to earth the chassis, not of course in all types of set, but this particular one is clearly intended to be earthed.
The fact that "back in the day" that a great many were probably used without an earth does mean that so doing is sensible today.

That set is "live chassis" with an auto-transformer for the heaters.
It will work fine ether way round, but it is much safer to ensure the chassis is connected to the neutral. The chassis is represented by the double line at the top (the left, as image is orientated in the post). That's the opposite of what camtechman suggested.

<Edit>
OK the earth is connected to some metalwork, and it may be the actual chassis but the common rail connected to the mains will be separate from that and I would still want the set connected with the polarity I stated.

It's an unusual arrangement and I'm not the first to think so

Live to 2, neutral to 3, would seem to satisfy the chassis being connected to the neutral and the fuse and voltage selector being in the live.
Earth as marked of course though it goes nowhere other than to the "isolating" cap to chassis.
Raymond F55 is a similar arrangement with the chassis signal earthed only.

As Sam said, Live to 2, Neutral to 3.

That chassis/HT-ve rail arrangement is also used in quite a few AA5 receiver designs.

Many thanks to all. Will get on with this. Interesting that it is actually the other way round to the photo Camtechman found on the internet. Glad I didn't look there and assume.

Best wishes Kneale
