Restoring a Reel to Reel Fascia
Dear All
Does anyone have any idea how a plate such as that pictured was produced? That is, was writing applied to the metal and lacquered or to an adhesive strip of plastic and stuck on? The plate is definitely coated with plastic or lacquer it would seem as in parts where the screws have depressed the metal the coating has chipped off over the years exposing the shinier bare metal beneath. I’m attempting to restore the recorder, and find a method of recoating the plate to disguise the chips or remove the coating (higher risk as the writing may peel off) and recoat it. I have two spare plates so some experimentation is possible (but only twice!) Any thoughts gratefully received. Many thanks Alex |

Re: Restoring a Reel to Reel Fascia
I beleive its called " SCotchcal"
Thats the commercial name, but probably was produced under other names. Origionally made by Scotch, or 3M, AKA Minnasota Mining and Manufacturing Its photographic principle, and is VERY similar to PCB production Joe |

Re: Restoring a Reel to Reel Fascia
Many thanks - it sounds like any attempt to remove the coating for restoration would likely remove the lettering too!
Worth an ask! Alex |
