Lawrence.
I will reconnect the 100K resistor and disconnect capacitor C5 connected to Pin 9 but there is no 33K resistor in between as this goes to pin 3 which connects to the red wire that goes to the tone control. The sufflex cap was removed yesterday that goes to the blue wire that also goes to the tone control. Let you know when I have the readings.

There are two capacitors that are connected to pin 9, the other end of one of them is connected to the red wire and a 33k resistor, the other end of that 33k resistor is connected to pin 3.

The other end of the other capacitor connects to the blue wire that goes to the wiper of the tone control.

All the above can be seen from the photo's you have posted.

Lawrence.

Where does the other end of what you're calling C5 go to?

EDIT. Crossed with Lawrence.

Unfortunately my soldering iron has stopped working and will have to replace before continuing.

Finally I can see it. The other capacitor is the Sufflex connected to the blue wire - this was disconnected yesterday.

Some advice please. Should I replace the soldering iron with a the gun held type that I currently have or go for the straight type for ease of use.
Thanks Martin

It's a matter of personal preference. I prefer a conventional straight iron.

Managed to get to the local country store and get a soldering iron.
I have disconnected both capacitors and reconnected the 100k resistor.
The voltage readings are:
Pin 2 19.40 Pin 3 18.80 and Pin 9 1.21

Without altering or reconnecting anything can you post a couple of new photo's, one showing the component side of the board and one showing the track side of the board?

Lawrence.

Something still not right there.

Are you absolutely sure there's now nothing connected to pin 9 apart from the 100k resistor?

The two capacitors and the 100K resistor are the only components connected to Pin 9.

Photo's attached as requested.

It may be an illusion, but it looks like there's a wire bridging the tracks to pins 8 and 9?

The lead to a capacitor?

That is probably where the 100K is connected and the end comes through the board. It not bridged but the tracks are close to each other due to solder. I will clean this up tomorrow to make sure there is more distance between them.

Put a meter on ohms range (power off) across the two tracks. You'll soon see if they're bridging.

A bridge here would explain the low voltage on pin 9.

We've been here before. Does "no reading" mean short circuit or open circuit?

That's your problem then. Either the wire from R3 100k or a solder bridge.
