You should be able to easily find a small screw for your new cartridge. If the existing screw is just slightly too large for the hole in the plastic of the BSR's mounting clip, just use the screw to make a new thread - I'm assuming the cartridge came with its mounting clip as we advised. The X5M will not weigh the same as the Ronette, so do your final arm balance when the X5M is fitted. Edward

I have run a wire from C14 to R16 as advised - see photo. I have also linked C8 and R10 as noted. With regard to checking voltages I will get to do this once I have acquired a probe with a croc fitting to suit my meter. I believe I should be able to get one on line. The cartridge has come with a plastic bracket and when I rang Musonic yesterday regarding the screw I did ask whether to use the existing screw but they advised me not to. The reason being that my existing screw is probably an imperial thread.

The resistor on tag 9 COUNTING FROM THE LEFT is redundant and can be removed.

There should be a link from the top ends of R4 and C3 to R5 ie top tags 14, 15 and 16 COUNTING FROM THE LEFT should be linked.

Test leads such as this are available from Maplin.

Thanks. When linking Tags should it be across both the Tag rails.

I'm not sure what you mean by that question.

All you need to do is link together the three tags at the top right of the dual tag strip. The right hand two are already linked.

This should help. Links shown in red. Redundant resistor in blue.

Sorry. What I meant was because they are dual tag strips do you link both of them at the top.

I still don't understand that. You don't need more than one link between any two tags.

No point in removing any duplicate links though.

Thank you for that. There are a few to do. As a matter of interest what wire do you use to link. I have been using wire from old resistors.Looks like I will have to invest in a new soldering iron before continuing as the point split this morning.

Congratulations Lucien! You've got this thread to the magic 100 post milestone!

I buy coils of bare tinned cooper wire and fit silicone sleeving as needed. Old resistor wire is fine though.

I'm not sure what you mean either, but if you're asking whether you need to link tags at the top (as shown in Graham's pic) and the bottom too, the answer is NO.

Looks like there could be a spurious link or links which I've circled in green. If they're there remove them..

Thanks to everyone. I will be back on the player once I have a new soldering iron and leads for the meter. Let's hope that another milestone is not made before I have it running!!!!! Martin

These don't make any sense to me, you should be seeing hundreds of volts. You don't quote any units, are they volts? Is your meter on a suitable DC voltage range? Is there any background hiss or hum from the player at the same time?

I was expecting hundreds of volts as well. I get no reading when set on DC only AC at 20.There is a hum and crackling but the readings do vary when taken again.I have not completed soldering the links on the tags.Should I do this first?

Looks like the Croc clip sold by Maplins on Saturday do not fit the probe securely to make a good connection as they advised. I will have to get some probes with the clips and check again.

I now have the right probe with croc clip. The DC readings are as follows:
C8 259 Volts C11 265 Volts C12 278 Volts. Is there a tolerance like with capacitors/resistors as these do not match the volts in the service manual.Thanks.
