Default Chippenham Auction Rooms - Saturday 8th May

There will be a collectors auction at Chippenham Auction Rooms on Saturday. According to a report in the local paper, there are several lots each consisting of groups of bakelite radios that once formed a large collection. I cannot see images of auction lots on the site yet, it may be a little early.

That's magic Neil. Thanks very much. I didn't think I could make it to NVCF so being up the road to me that really made my day to know that.

Looks like a nice day out . I will save my energies for the NVCF rather than do two events in succession. Looks like an unusually large Truphonic American set looking for a home.

Hi Chipp

I didn't go to the auction myself but my son was there. He got the impression that about half the radios didn't sell. There were not many bidders for them. Perhaps people were thinking like Neil and concentrating on NVCF.

I notice that the prices are now on the Auction House website

Good photos on the auction site. Bit of a shame really. One or two that I would have bid for that didn't sell. Given the outcome of the sale, this thread might now X ref with two recent ones on collecting as an obsession and a possible decline in prices!

It may be worth someone local dropping by and asking. Our unsolds usually are either offered for the reserve price or if there's no reserve, the auctioneer will decide a fair price (for radios like these I would expect £5-£25) I myself may be interested in lots 458 & 469 but cannot see much point in contacting the auction house as I can't drop by and pick them up and pay for them etc!
It may be of course the vendor/vendor's family decides to keep what remains.

Josh.

The unsold Ferranti 147 set is one of the most interesting there !

Of course, there may have been significant reserves set for the more desireable models like the Ferranti and the Air Zone. I am surprised by the amount that the two boxes of valves fetched, at £42 some of the valve boxes appear to contain modern TV valves.
