Default Triumph CR 1610

Hello all,

I have a Triumph CR 1610 cassette "data" recorder in for repair. Am looking for a manual or circuit diagram. I know this is probably a White Label buy in by Dixons in the 80s but it's a good recorder in that it's auto level works well in terms of computer program playback and recording, which is why the owner wants it fixed.

So, maybe this model may be know under other brand names.

Any help or links gratefully received.

Pic attached for reference.

Thanks
Chas.

A long shot Chas but have you looked inside the recorder in case there are any OEM markings as to make/model ?

For example sometimes on rebadged units removing the badged name label reveals the original maker/model details.

The label picture at Post 4 of this linked Thread does support Triumph being a brand done for Currys -

I had one badged by Boots. It needed a new flat belt IIRC.

What's wrong with that one?

Hi Chas, If it helps I have a photocopied service manual that I could scan and email to you. Please PM me if this would help you.

Standard £20 job from about 1987. I’ve seen them badged as all kinds of things including “Cloud 9”!

Think a tiny circuit diagram was often included in the instruction booklet.

The service manual states that this model was specifically for computer program use.

Usually meaning that the automatic level control on the record side was either recalibrated to better deal with the rather coarse but consistent-in-level CUTS tape-recording tones, or deleted altogether....

It has a changeover switch to switch from Normal to Compute Mode On.

The User manual cover calls it a Portable Cassette Recorder Computer Compatible.

So it sounds like when switched to Normal it would operate as a standard audio cassette unit.

From memory it looks like a Sharp shoebox.

In my experience, the computer/norm switch on such units does one of two things: adjust the frequency cut/boost to suit the data (usually cuts the bass and very top, and boosts the middle) or enables low level monitoring via the speaker while recording or playing.
