Default Marconi Record 'G' clamp

I picked up one of these clamps today. Anyone know what they were used for in the Marconi works ? The large canister is sprung loaded, so pressure would still be applied if the item in the jaws reduced in thickness (shrunk) a little.
Mike.

They were the business end of the Marconi moisture meter range, TF933 and its variants. You put the sample to be measured in the holder, squashed it as far as you could, and the instrument measured the conductance of the sample.

Thanks Richard. In that case I doubt if I will ever use it for its original purpose, but could be useful to put a constant pressure on wooden items to ease excess glue out of a joint.
Mine is missing the extra bar, but the bolt holes are there and Marconi ident.plate has gone.

Unless you happen to be an arable farmer you won't have much use for it. Back in the 50's, 60's and even 70's they were the gold standard that every farmer relied on to know when his grain (and even tobacco) was dry enough to be stored.

Some of these TF933 meters seem to still be in use, lots of info here; https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index....surance.73614/

I can repair and calibrate Marconi Moisture Meters. If you have no use for the G clamp assembly then I could find a home for it...
