Are the service manual supplier Mauritron still in business?
I bought one from them late last year but all the links seem to have gone to one of those silly domain parking pages, and I couldn't find an entry in the Companies register for them! Chris Williams

Google sends you to a facebook page which looks like they moved to Yorkshire. They were always known for being in Chinnor South Oxon. I wonder about a semi-retirement move
You are right the website appears to have gone. |

I have used Mauritron a few times over the years, some of their photocopying was a bit slapdash but sometimes they had manuals that were impossible to find anywhere else. Last manual I purchased from them was for my Racal 9839 frequency counter. It will be a shame if they close down. They must have a library of thousands of manuals.

The last time I looked them up, which must be at least 5 years ago when looking for a Grundig tape recorder manual (which they didn't have), they were diversifying into Gauge 0 model railway stuff. I had always managed to get comprehensive service manuals for my TVs (and my first camcorder) from them.

I've bought a couple of manuals from Mauritron in the past. At the time I was grateful that the manuals were available at all and had been collected in one place where they could easily be searched for. I didn't find them unreasonably priced.
I have noticed several times in the past that manuals which I have downloaded from the likes of Elektrotanya had the Mauritron stamp on them. If that is a general occurrence then it must be quite difficult to make an income by charging for manuals which other people are just giving away. Ultimately, it must get to the point where none of the manuals you have will sell because people can find them all free elsewhere. Nowadays the most common reason for me to go looking for a manual or a circuit diagram is if a fellow forum member starts a repair thread for which the diagram is needed to be able to follow along. I wouldn't really be able to justify paying for a manual under those circumstances. |

That brings back memories. I still have a HR3300 manual, some VCR fault guides, and a book of reel to reel cct diagrams I ordered from them in the late 80s. As has been said the quality of some was pretty ropey, but they were very cheap and at the time I was grateful to be able to get my hands on the info.

lt doesn't look good tbh
The Facebook page hasn't been updated (by Mauritron) since 2015 As said above, their website doesn't exist and the link to their online shop bounces back as "server not found" Although there's a review of them on Trustpilot from 2021 |

The web archive has a capture of the Mauritron 'Vintage Manuals' site on the 25th May 2022 :-
https://web.archive.org/web/20220525...uritron.co.uk/ - which states the site was last updated on the 7th Feb 2022 The domain name expired on the 27th, but given the site was apparently still up and running perhaps it was just another overlooked renewal? Cheers |

Awaiting then tearing open an envelope from Mauritron in the hope of fixing that elusive fault on an unfamiliar tv or video was one of life's little pleasures way back when. Thanks, Maurice! Who was the other we used...in Scotland, was it T.I.S.?

That's interesting!
I see that it's still run by the originator - Maurice Small. I can't recall where he was located originally - I seem to think it was in the Midlands or South, but I see that he's now on the East Yorks Coast at Hornsea, about 10 mile NE of where I live in Cottingham. He must have founded the company when quite young. As I recall, Mauritron was on the go back in the 80s in mail order pre-internet era. I had several manuals by post from him, all of which were excellent quality.

That's good news, once these services have disappeared they rarely return.

It's just been pointed out that Mick's attachment contains personal info that could be harvested by the usual spammers, so I've just unapproved the attachment to limit the damage.
Not quite as bad as account numbers... David

Hi, does anyone know what has happened to Mauritron as none of the links to them seem to work?

I do know that a while ago I uploaded a manual to a free manual site and a few weeks later Mauritron was selling it on eBay for around £15. I recognised the marks on the scan that I did from the original.
I complained and he took it off. Dan. |
