Vintage Radios, TVs etc in films and on TV (NOT ANACHRONISMS)

Following Nationalisation, British Transport Films was established to promote the transport industry.
Their films are fascinating to watch today, as they show the world in the 50's and 60's.
One, Farmer Moving South, has this final shot of the farmer leaving his home in Yorkshire. All the furniture has been taken and he is locking the door, with, what I assume to be, his last valuable item.

(I believe the film was made in 1955-56.)

What is the radio?

Just seen 'The Quiet Ones' - a new Hammer chiller (as opposed to horror). Reasonable film, set in 1974 and nice to see several accurate items:-
TV - Early Ferguson 1400 chassis, non-practical
Audio recorders - Akai M7 valved reel-to-reel (practical), Uher 4000 report (non-practical) and from a Fifties flashback Vortexion WVA (practical) and a Perdio wireless.
Film projector - Bell and Howell 652.
Plus various period amplifiers, speakers, oscillators and chart recorders.
Glad there are still set dressers who seem to care about getting things as right as possible.

There was a programme on 1950s 'British' Rock & Roll on BBC4 on Friday, and as is usual with BBC4 may be repeated in the next day or so, with lots of vintage footage and vintage radios, box record players, juke boxes, etc. At one point a now elderly rock and roll musician plugs his vintage guitar into a radiogram of some sort. Interesting programme all round.

However, I was a bit doubtful about the street shot of some teddy boys as I could see a circular white arrow on blue background one-way sign just in shot and I'm sure these didn't arrive until the late 1960s.

The BBC2 programme on Dylan Thomas yesterday had what looked like a Utility set in Thomas's writing shed in 1953. Hopefully it was a battery version

The radio used as a guitar amp on 'Rock 'n Roll Britannia' was a Murphy 188C, not the later FM console as previously suggested.

Thanks for the info on the Murphy. I did wonder if it was the first time in 40 years the Murphy had been fired up. It don't go bang!

I'd not seen it before but checking post 21 the prog was last on in January. (So if you missed it this time look out for it in September...)

Vintage film about the 1958 Football World Cup on BBC2 this morning with shots of people in the crowd listening for scores from the other match that was taking place at the same time. Early transistor portables and a number of vanity case receivers make an appearance at about 1 hour and 5 mins. Also lots of interesting cars and vintage technology to spot, not to mention a vintage 17 year old Pele.

I guess if it was a vintage film about a then current affair it would have been rather tricky to get anachronisms in! Everything would have to have been in period or earlier unless the Tardis was around somewhere

Seems the properties buyer for the new series "Quirke" must be a vintage fan.
This is set in the 1950s with a superb period feel, and several radios and TV's put in an appearance.
It flits between Ireland and Boston USA, but to my eye some of the 'American' sets looked rather British ?
Anyone else catch this ?

At the begging of last nights Panarama special a Blue Hacker Soverign RP25 was seen in operation in the doctors house before he went off to the Ebola front line in west Africa with the BBC film crew in tow. If you missed it it's well worth watching on iplayer, it's quite an eye opener.

Lots of other interesting gear as well e.g. a Smiths 'Sectric' clock (my grandparents had one in their kitchen for many years) - and who's going to be the first to identify the "sit up and beg" table radio?

I've just watched a John Betjamin film on VHS on the town of Clevedon in the early 60's. Retired folk in an hotel, with amongst other genteel things a very nice radio and a TV. Radio looks like a big American type console. Lucky people.

I've actually had quite a few of my own radios used in TV work as my house is on filming agencies and we get work for period documentaries, Dramas and photo shoots.

In the comedy sit com, the IT Crowd, there was a shelving unit behind where Moss sat. On it there were a number of vintage items but I particularly noticed the Avo 8. Ok, not a radio or Tv but worth mentioning all the same!
