Why would someone buy one ?

They so cheap to build the hardest part is bending the PCV tubing (heat and sand makes the bend)

{Maybe more making there own today. }

I have to laugh, a lot of people refer to the Wellbrook as being "simple", yet it took someone to reverse engineer one and publish the findings before anyone started to build (copy) them!

I found Andrew easy to deal with and in what was the dying days of the company he made a balun to feed the output of the Wellbrook into a vintage radio for me and supplied it FOC after I'd bought my Wellbrook.

An equivalent commercial product is the NTi MegaLoop FX Active Loop Antenna at €548. NTI make a range of H-field antennas, including a passive version at €199 but this requires a seriously huge loop of 5m dia. which I think would lose the near-field rejection of local qrn

In the present day, I struggle to figure out why anyone would buy a commercial mag loop at the prices they ask for. Following Wellbrook's opening of the "mag-loop era", the internet has become flooded with homebrew designs. Anyone starting a "literature review" on the web now would need some time to complete it.

Taking it one step further, there has been a great deal of interest recently in small loop antennas for transmission. This follows a general crack down on the use of large HF antennas in many built-up areas of both the US and EU. The significant downside with the transmitting loops is the very high RF voltages which appear on them.
