Default Dynamic range

This may have been mentioned before, but if not it is interesting. Now I know why my re-issue LP of Oasis "Morning Glory" sounds so bad!

Impressive.

I recall hearing clipping on a Dido cd some 23 years ago, and found it quite unbelievable that it was necessary to Turn It Up To 11.

Happily the Pulse CDs seem to be reasonably ok.

Dark Side of the Moon, on the other hand, seems to have suffered somewhat over the years.

Even dear old Hawkwind do much better than that awful Dido mix.

Fortunately, this idiotic remastering trend does seem to be past its peak now. The commercial pop market mostly works through normalised online streams, so it doesn't matter if the CD sounds 'loud'.

There will always be poorly mastered CDs around though, particularly if some suit thinks it will increase sales.
