Old query
Hello. Been in the tv game all my adult life, started off when the Bush Tv125 was in full production but I have a silly question. The stories you hear about people crowding round a nine inch Bush. Was this the Tv22? Been bugging me for months. Thanks, anyone.

Re: Old query
Most likely or the TV12, the TRF version. There were many 9 inch sets about when I started in 1954, Pye made several back as far as 1948, the Bush TV1 was a 9" console. Can't remember the others off hand. There is a 9" Pye console in the entrance hall of Beamish museum at present - if you ever go that way

Re: Old query
Crowding round a giant sized 9" TV eh!
Well, not quite so easy with what we had - a VCR97 CRT fronted by an oil filled magnifier....

Re: Old query
Was your VCR97 a green or white one Edward? There was also the VCR138A? which was about 3", I started building a set with one but never finished it, someone gave me a partially built 9" Denco kit, I did finish that one - and it worked!

Re: Old query
I've never heard of a VCR97 displaying anything but a green trace.

Re: Old query
I too am sure that all VCR97s were green, however their were several versions of the VCR517 which is more or less pin compatible but with different phosphors, from memory it was the VCR517C that had a bluish/white phosphor so was often chosen for TV use. As always there is a catch, the VCR517 really needed a higher EHT which in turn necessitated more drive from the timebases so those EF50s had to work rather harder, but hey, they were cheap & plentiful.

Re: Old query
I have seen what looked like a VCR97 displaying a white picture, but maybe it was the 517 don't think I have ever seen one of those.
I think most of the EF50's in the '50's were VR91's Peter |

Re: Old query
It may be a case of 'crowding around the Dansette record player' when it was actually a Fidelity. John.
