Acos Hi-G cartridge types
Morning all,
I have a question regarding the Acos Hi-G cartridges. How many types were available? the reason I ask is I have a Regentone Handygram ( the small one with moulded plastic top panel) which has a white Hi-G cartridge that is attached to the arm of the BSR deck via its turnover shaft rather than the usual single or double screw mounting. this cartridge is as expected U/S. I have the option of a tested good one but this one is brown in colour and is in a standard turnover type mounting. I am sure the mounting is not going to be an issue but I was wondering if there is any difference with output between the white and brown versions of this cartridge. I am only considering fitting this as there seems to be no other way to attach a more modern cartridge to the BSR arm on this deck without drilling the headshell. Cheers chaps Rob |

Re: Acos Hi-G cartridge types
Interesting question, I have only seen the white version, looking at Ben's very good Sticky on Cartridge specifications I note that there is no reference to the colour of the Acos Hi-g cartridge.

Re: Acos Hi-G cartridge types
I saw a player recently that had a BSR deck that had that method of mounting the cartridge. The 'indent' for locating the 33/78 positions was molded into the arm and made it difficult to find any replacement. I think that originally was an Acos Hi-G.

Re: Acos Hi-G cartridge types
They were very popular in the mid 1950s. There were HGP-37 and HGP-39 type numbers with white and brown mouldings. From memory, I recall that the brown version was a medium-output type and used in many Radiograms. But I just can't match the type number to which colour moulding? Styli are still available.

Re: Acos Hi-G cartridge types
I have attached a picture of the Acos Hi-G Cartridge, in white. The only marking I can are the numbers 59-5C. I presume this must be the manufacture code.

Re: Acos Hi-G cartridge types
I have both white and brown variants of this cart. Will take a closer look next week.

Re: Acos Hi-G cartridge types
That very useful information, thank you, perhaps Ben can add that to his excellent Sticky on Cartridge specifications.
