De the display driver ic quit working.
I did not succeed to remove it in 1 part. so I had to reconstruct the picture. This is what it looked like. I can not find any info about the driver ic. Maybe anyone can help me to find a replacement. It had 14 pins Toshiba TD 6010 BP Thanks in advance Kind regards rafalow |

What looks like an IC might in fact just be a 7 x parallel resistor package as it would be usual for each of the seven segments to have their own current limiting resistor.
If it is a an active driver IC there aren't really enough wires going to the PCB as I would expect to see nine wires, of which seven would be the 7-segment data, one would be GND / common and one would be +Ve power for the IC. You only have 7+1 wires going to that module, so that seems like 7 x segment data + 1 common. Last edited by SiriusHardware; 25th Mar 2023 at 8:20 am. |

The 8 wires could be power, ground, 4 bits BCD data, decimal point, blanking/ripple blanking?

Any discussion as to what this is used in will result in the deletion of the thread.
Cheers Mike T

However, the display application won't need the higher numbers, so perhaps not all the segments need to be wired. The display shows the position of a switch.
So is the switch a single-pole n-way type? or is it 3 poles done as binary, or is it one pole per segment? Some re-engineering could do the job even if the part can't be found. David

Thanks to you all for the help.
I am afraid that i am not allowed to describe the device. Think i must find another way to solve my problem. Kind regards |

If it goes as high as '4' or more then I think all seven segments are used at least once.
'Universal' replacement indicators are widely available for the exact purpose that this is used for, they are sold as being compatible with or configurable for use with various different makes. That's as much as I am able to say here, unfortunately. The OP has just PMed me to say that he prefers to try to fix the original unit, but I don't know how much we can help if we aren't able to discuss what and how the source sends the data to the display. Rafalow may have to seek help in a forum which specialises in this type of equipment. Last edited by SiriusHardware; 25th Mar 2023 at 10:42 am. |

SiriusHardware has told me what it's used for so I don't have to play guessing games...
My thought is that it might have to display patterns other than digits, perhaps 'n'. So the chip might well be custom. It also probably doesn't run off 5V which would make it harder to use a PAL or microcontroller to replace it. It's not in any Toshiba databook that I've looked in, it's not in a third party digital IC equivalents list either. |

Hello,
I was wondering if there are any clues as to its age or any date codes on the IC package. It's not clear from the pic in post#1 if it is through-hole or surface mount. Sometimes searching for the base number minus the manufacturer's prefix helps. I did a quick search for 6010 7 segment display decoder/driver but that didn't yield anything. I assume it's for an automotive application? Regards, Symon |

There are 7 input lines.
Each line activates a number. From 1 to 6 Kind regards |

To get 1 to 6 you'd need only 6 input lines. Is the 7th used for some other symbol? If there are 7 inputs then you only have one wire left over, perhaps common ground.
You could do 1-of-n inputs to 7 segment code using a diode matrix. That wouldn't need a power supply of its own, it would take the segment current from the input line. Silly guess is that 'TD' stands for 'Toshiba Diode' ![]() |

I'm glad you are still with us.

If there are only 6 inputs the other two wires could be power for what may be a dedicated decoder IC. Or, this could just be a diode matrix which would not (itself) require a power supply. Cross posted with Tony. |

The OP might like to join https://www.golbornevintageradio.co.uk , who have a rather active forum on automotive topics.

I assume the IC has power supply pins? If not then perhaps it's some type of diode matrix.
