Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
No 19" G6s, but, yes, there was a 22" dual standard G22K503. This used the A56-120X CRT.
It was a heavy beast, but had the edge on the 511 in my opinion. Not many were sold, of course, but they did look far more modern than the 25" models, and were correspondingly smaller. Mine's long since gone, along with the equally desirable Bush CTV174D and Decca C2200 (?). I don't think any of the other manufacturers had a 22" dual standard, preferring to keep the 19" duals in limited production, though they did look very dated in comparison, and I suspect not many were sold. |

Here are two scans of a Philips leaflet on the G22K503. I agree that it looks so much more "modern" with the 22" squared-up CRT.

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
From the text, it looks like it was sold around 1969, so possibly a bit earlier than the continental 22" K7. It seems Philips UK just skipped the 19" imported tubes and went with the 22" tubes right away.

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
In fact it wasn't till the G20K560 that Philips UK offered a smaller screen TV, using the G8 chassis with the combined decoder/IF panel and flap controls as in the 550. Although I've never tried it, Philips said that, unlike the 550, you couldn't use the separate decoder and IF panels in the 560. I think they'd fit, so possibly the CRT wouldn't be compatible?
Then they went mad with the 18" 570... |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
A 22" version (ST2200) was announced in August 1969 but whether it ever saw the light of day is difficult to say as it was very close to the end of both dual-standard production and the Stella brand name.

There was a 22" dual standard Decca colour set with the CTV22 chassis, a slightly modified version of the CTV19 and CTV25 chassis. On Mikey's Old Technology Page there's a good pic of one https://www.oldtechnology.net/colour2.html Regards, Symon |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
As a matter of interest, you'll see the front panel of the 22" G6 no longer has the tone switch, colour on/off switch or tuning meter on the front panel. In fact the last production of the G25K500s also deleted these giving a much less cluttered front panel.

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
The 22" dual standard G6 was announced in the trade publications in March 1968.
From the Radiomuseum: https://www.radiomuseum.org/tubes/tube_a56-120x.html First usage 1968. I believe the developer of the tube was Philips, or, was it TFK? DFWB. |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
The G6, Decca and Bush/Murphy 22" duals all used this CRT, and obviously went on to use it in their subsequent single standard models. This made the 22" Thorn 3000 look quite dated in comparison, especially as square screens were clearly the way things were going.

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
It wasn't delivered until a year later though, according to the May 1969 issue of Practical Television. It had originally been scheduled for release in January, according to the October 1968 issue of Wireless World.

Perhaps supply or manufacturing difficulties with the A56-120X square corner CRT. The other square corner CRT from Philips and Mullard was the monochrome A51-120W, that tube was available late 1968 and the 24" A61-120X in 1969. The 25" colour CRT A63-11X must have remained in production until early 1971. DFWB. |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
The single-standard Philips 511 was demonstrated at a trade-show in August 1968, long before the dual-standard 503 became available, which must have decimated advance orders.

Pretty sure I recall the squarer 26' A66 120x was also available to the SS G6. |

Why they would go to the trouble of tooling up to make this when the A56 must have been on the drawing board is hard to fathom unless the square screen posed manufacturing problems...? It couldn't have been in production long I did not see many, and all were made by Mazda (and usually flat!). |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
I suppose this is confirmed by continental Philips using the (American?) 19" tube for a short while.

Hi
I have a 26" G6, it has doors but I wonder if there was ever a standard cabinet 26" made. Regards. Gary |

It would be great to see some pics of your set and in particular the chassis. I believe the convergence coil assembly was changed for the square corner CRTs. From memory the rounded corner CRTs such as the 25" A63 11X use thumb wheel magnets for the static convergence adjustment. The square corner 26" A66 120X used plastic slotted knob adjusters to move the magnets. I also think the rounded corner CRTs were of a 5:4 aspect ratio compared to a 4:3 aspect ratio of the 26" CRT. The proportions of the 26" CRT does look more rectangular by comparison. One other small point, the deflection angle is 90 degrees for the 25" CRT but 92 degrees for the 26" CRT. Regards, Symon |
