Default Bush Type BE 80

Hello,

I am new to the forum, and I am looking for information on a Bush Type BE 80 battery receiver, Serial Number 365/10755. I have recently come into possession of it and would like to see it go to a good home (ie- someone who appreciates radios)

thank you, Perry

Any chance of a few decent pictures?

It sounds like an export model (info hard to find in UK) but may look similar to something more familiar.

What's the valve (tube) lineup? That will date it to within a few years, at least.

The BE80 is an Export set that looks like a VHF80 but no VHF.

It has MW and two short wave bands

Cheers

Mike is spot on. Bush must have reused the VHF80 case and chassis for a completely different model, for markets that hadn't started using VHF at the time (mid 60s). Lots of countries were surprisingly late to launch FM radio - even Australia didn't start till 1976 - though I believe Canada launched in 1960. Maybe the radio has travelled to Canada via somewhere else.

If you want to sell it, I suggest you just list it on eBay. It will be a rare radio in North America and should attract plenty of interest.

Thanks for the help gentlemen.
Is there a way to date it's manufacture. It belonged to my uncle who used it in the upper reaches of northern Ontario in the late(?) 50's, early 60's. The radio's serial number is 365/10755.

There might be date codes on some of the components- capacitors, perhaps. They would set a "not before this" limit on the set's age.

It's likely to be contemporary with the VHF80, which was introduced in 1960 and made until 1968 or thereabouts.
