Default Roberts R617 help needed!

Hi, I've a Roberts FM/LW/MW/SW receiver here that has decided to be naughty. It won't switch on - I've installed a fresh set of batteries and the clock display appears, but the wireless won't respond to the red "Power/Sleep" button. I haven't been able to find any user guide or service info.

Can anyone help me switch it on?

Aha - I've answered my own post, it's also sold as a Sangean ATS 606 for which I've downloaded the User Manual.

Hi Richard, I have a different clock that I have to short the contacts together for a few seconds to do a reset before inserting batteries. Maybe worth trying.

John.

Roberts badged a lot of Sangean models in the 90s.

You may be able to do a factory reset - the Sangean docs you have should explain if it's possible.

Thanks Paul & John. I’ve put it aside for today, a little frustrated because I was hoping to use the Roberts to help align my MiniMod - but dinner is calling.

I have an R700 that had the same problem. The issue was in the switch. I short-circuited the switch (as I had no idea about replacement) and it worked fine.

This is a 90s 'world radio' and doesn't have a switch in the traditional sense. It's basically a computer.

As Paul has said, it’s basically a computer, the power switch ‘talks’ to the CPU and tells it to switch on. It won’t be an easy fix unlike old tech, and may even be the end of the road for it sadly, but hopefully not.
Good luck.

It’s been a little temperamental - it usually switches on but I mostly have to remove the batteries to switch it off. There may be dirt on the membrane switch but the dismantling process looks a bit daunting so I need to wait for a day when I’ve time to concentrate on it. Meantime, I did use the set to align my MiniMod.
